Sounds like a great adventure. War stories are usually filled with passion that take your emotions on a roller coaster ride. The hardest struggle is the conflict we fight in our own hearts and minds. That is what keeps them exciting. War is not a ...

Such dilemmas are interesting to explore because the character involved is likely to lean first one way and then the other, depending on immediate circumstances. Something - perhaps trivial - that reminds her of her demand for vengeance will motiv...

True, but that psychological complexity is not an abstract thing. The root of how a character reacts in any situation lies in who the character is. If you know your characters, the things they love, hate, do or don't understand, their politics, th...

At a Crossroads

My characters, particularly my main character, is at a crossroads. These people have come through the war, but they are haunted by memories of those who went before them. My main character has to admit the truth about her war service to the man she loves, and she senses his experiences have changed him as well. All of these characters were innocent young people before they embarked on a life-changing journey, but war has hardened them. They are stronger souls, but they are also harder. Many of t… Continue

Where love and duty intertwine

My protagonist has done all she can for a cause. Now it's her time to put her own goals before that of country and patriotism. Her desire to have her husband by her side was always a motivation in her actions. When he died, she joined the military. When she saw a way of avenging him through espionage, she joined the OSS. Now, duty and personal goals will intermingle. They may conflict or they may intertwine. My protagonist has always done her duty, but she will now have to see how that dedicatio… Continue

War and Vengeance

My protagonist is finding just how much passion, war, and sex intertwine. Tonight, she was in the arms of a man she hates, but making love to him is essential to winning her cause. She wants victory for the Allies, but she also wants to avenge the man she loves. Consequently, she must swallow the bile that rises in her throat whenever this murderer takes her in his arms. Hopefully, her goals and those of her country coincide. She has to realize that achieving personal fulfillment cannot jeopardi… Continue

WWII

My protagonist is facing a moral dilemma, and she will have to decide if her own lust for personal vengeance is conflict with the role she must fulfill as a spy and a patriot. The demands of duty and thew tug at her heart may coincide, but they may also run counter to each other. At this point, she doesn't know if she will follow her lust for vengeance or her call to duty. The two may dovetail, and she's on a mission. There's no turning back. Another character will find redemption in an unlikely… Continue

Still in the lion's den

My WWII protagonist will now have to sacrifice her values, morals, and (possibly) her life to help her country. As I read about women in WWII, I'm fascinated by the many roles they fulfilled. Of course, we all hear about them on the home front, the Rosies. Many of them worked for the State Department, spied for the OSS (the precursor to the CIA), and worked as interpreters in military offices. WWII also was the first time women had full military status. Some of these women, like their male count… Continue

I suppose we are going to have to agree to disagree or at least, have differnt points of view. I just hate to dwell on horrible things even when they happen to me. I don't want to talk about them over and over. I accept it, deal with it, then I move on. That is just me. I don't ever forget, I just don't dwell on it all the time. That is just me.

I agree so much with your comments. Its just that I have always been the type of person who is quick to want to get on with my life after tragedy, or disaster or even a death in the family. I feel my emotions to the fullest and like to move on and I feel like that there are a lot of people that are dragging out the rebuilding whether they are using it as an excuse for their laziness or just for the attention. I am in Livingston parish and right after Katrina so many people moved here and my husband worked in New Orleans after so I know how bad it was, but I am always just thankful for what I have and wanting to move on and not dwell on the past or the negative.

One of the most exciting times is that first professional edit. Then the wait begins. Then before you know it, you have that book, with your name on it and the title you created, in your hands. Nothing like it.
