About Me

My real name is Tim Baker.
I was born and raised in Warwick, RI and spent almost my entire life there. I attended The Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, Mass. where I studied Architectural Engineering.
The majority of my adult career life was spent in the Architectural industry with some brief asides in construction, ice cream sales and some public utility work.
I was married in 1980, divorced in 1982. I have a 28 year old son who raised me all by himself!
I love sports, music, books, movies, dogs and building models of WWII fighter planes.
I used to raise and socialize puppies for Guiding Eyes for the Blind (an incredibly rewarding endeavor)
I have studied and taught martial arts and played just about every sport you can think of.
The first book I ever read was Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson and from there I was hooked.
My interest in writing started when I was 10 and heard a poem written by a friend of my brothers. I remember thinking how incredibly cool it was that he had said so much in so few words.
I started writing in 1988 but that book was shelved due to lack of proper writing equipment. (no computer or typewriter.) Although I do plan on resurecting the concept of that project and writing it again (and finishing it this time)
I am a very spiritual person and try to live my life as error free as I can. (spiritually error free that is)
The book that changed my life was "Conversations With God".
The best book I have ever read was "Black Cross" by Greg Iles.
My first book - "Living the Dream" tries to explore the whole Karma thing while maintaining an interesting storyline.
That's about all I can think of.
Peace

Numbers

I heard that Dan Brown’s latest book was at the top of the best seller list within hours of its release. Surely an admirable accomplishment but the fact itself is somewhat misleading. Statistics must be looked at from all angles before they can be given any credence. Before I continue I would like to state that I mean no disrespect to Mr. Brown, whose work I greatly admire.

As I understand it, the Big-Box bookstores deal with the large publishers. The large publishers deal with the major league… Continue

The Last Resort - opening chapter

Prologue

February 25, 1986
Providence, RI

The frigid wind could cut through solid steel.

Inside the small trailer that served as his office, Gerry Houle used a pair of pliers to turn the broken knob on the electric space heater in an attempt to coax more heat from it. The spring shaped elements hummed and glowed bright red but did precious little to warm the space. Cold air continued to creep in through the drafty window and around the poorly sealed door.

After rubbing his hands bris… Continue

Kurt's Blues (who do you blame?)

Illegal took my job now I don’t get paid
Backdoor man took my girl now I can’t get laid
Seems like every time I look somebody’s taking what’s mine
I gotta get out before they take my mind

Ticket from a cop so I was late for work
Feminist down the street treating me like a jerk
Seems like I’ll never get the cards that’ll fit my hand
Life ain’t working out the way that I planned

There’s just no way to get ahead
There’s no point in getting out of bed
To fight a battle that I’ll just never win
The… Continue

The Freedom Trail

Once it started raining the entire experience, along with my enthusiasm, could have been dampened.
Standing by the side of the interstate, I watched everything I owned get wet.
Darkness was coming, which meant cold, so I needed a ride pretty soon.
It was either that or walk the hundred miles carrying my pack.
Somehow I knew that someone would pick me up, but when?
I hadn’t put too much thought into my escape plan.
Just filled a pack and hit the open road.
Boston seemed like a good place to go.
I… Continue

The Suitcase

Whoever said “It’s nice to get away but it’s nicer to come home” never met my wife.

I was barely in the front door when she started on me.

“It’s about time you got home. Your plane landed at 5:32, it’s 6:45. Why did it take so long to drive 6 miles? Take your shoes off, don’t track snow into the house, I’ve been cleaning all day. Don’t leave your suitcases in the foyer. It’s freezing in here, you better check the furnace.”

Yeah, it’s great to be home.

Without changing clothes I went right to… Continue

I just finished reading your book and loved it. I look forward to screaming and shouting about it (in a good way).

I don't know if I mentioned it, but as soon as I finish your book I'll start promoting it loudly. So far so great and I'd be shocked if I don't enjoy the remainder.

Tim! I'm sorry. Your review should have been posted on Amazon.com two weeks ago. I didn't personally post one but, let me check with the other reader. Her husband was ill for minute but, if she hasn't done it "I" will do it TODAY! Please accept my apology!! And you should have no worries, your book was an amazing piece of art. Our minds were constantly entertained and waiting for what happened "next"!

My apologies for accusing you of throwing out false compliments. And thank you...I think. I mean, in my opinion, Nicole is quite good looking. Or at least, I wouldn't kick her out of bed. Wait. I didn't mean that. Errr... see now you got me all flustered.

Nicole Kidman? If you want something Tim, you don't need to throw out such extravagant (and false) compliments.

I haven't read anything other than the title of this yet? I haven't read the book yet and don't want to be hit with spoilers. Are there any in this discussion or can I read on?

The story is there, no changes, but if I published it today I'd put it out in 5"by 8" and use one size smaller font. I'll make the changes when I release the sequel "Road Trip," so that they are a matched pair. "Road Trip" is running late and will...

I've no wish to try to pre-empt Mari's reply; but as one who's read the novel twice, I wouldn't want any detail of it to be changed. (The mere fact that I have read it twice tells you my opinion of it!) The author is likely to have a different op...

So let's talk about your book for a minute... I'm sure that when you finished writing "Beaufort Falls" you re-read it and polished it...then re-read it again and polished it and so on and so on. So the question is this... Now that it's publishe...

So that's where you've been... I'm glad you're ok (relatively speaking) and I hope you make a complete recovery - soon. In the meantime - get yourself a little recording device to keep track of your ideas!
