Happy holidays to all of you.

I am excited to announce that my book: 50 Frogs, 5 Babes and a Bulldog is finally out in print. Check out my website for more information.
November 10
You've tried querying, checked alternatives, and believe your book will have a market if it is published. Author houses don't appeal to you. Your manuscript is ready. What's next? Don't stress!

I couldn't agree with you more.

Dog Ear pays royalties quarterly (every three months) regardless of the amount. If you have the original word file of your manuscript a company like Dog Ear will format it for you as part of the package. I understand that the fee is rough but if ...

How often does Dog Ear send out royalties? My publisher, SynergEbooks, sends out the check after every $25.00. She has me on some e-bookstore websites that have discounted my book which is already low being an e-book, and they pay a lower royalty,...

My only problem so far is advertising. The book is getting very positive feedback but I am limited as to getting the word out there. I don't know how many I've sold since I haven't gotten my first royalty check yet. Dog Ear charges on a "per page...

Are you having luck selling your book/s through Dog Ear? What kind of cut do they take? Are you on Amazon, Barnes & Noble as well? My book: 50 Frogs, 5 Babes and a Bulldog is a comedy. I am writing another book, Hornblower at Work, which is a com...

I hope it works for you. And you're right - people do want to hold a book in their hands. I don't blame them, I love it too. My books are really nothing to rave about. So far the four I've written would be best placed in the crime/action/adventur...

Yes, Mr. Levine lists Dog Ear as one of the outstanding POD publishers. He also lists Lulu in that same category. I disagree there, due to my awful experience with them. I am hoping Lulu can correct the many problems that occurred with their bad f...

My first book "Living the Dream" was published by Dog Ear Publishing and I must admit that even though coming up with the $1700 fee was tough, I am very pleased with the final product. The cover design exceeded my expectations (which were high to...

Lulu's poor formatting has turned me off from printing with them. Mr. Levine, in his book said that Lighning Source is the main printer for the POD publishers. I found out that they take new publishers. If I can get Lulu to make the book right, I ...

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience...hopefully they'll make good on it.

Thanks. I have that book and contacted Lulu because Mr. Levine put them in the outstanding self-publisher category. They formatted my book, and I just got the PDF file and am very disappointed. They did a sloppy job and I had to email back with ma...

I've said this before and I'm going to say it again...Invest $15 in the book "The Fine Print of Self-Publishing" by Mark Levine. I bought it when I first considered the self-publishing route and it was the best money I have ever spent. Mr. Levin...

Are you looking for a printer or a subsidy publisher? As I learned the hard way a few years ago there are printers who do only printing, and there are subsidy publishers who provide the ISBN and an official publishing name, but the author pays (su...

Latest review from "Zelda the bulldog."

I am really excited about this review, as I'm a Zelda fan. You can search for her under Zelda the bulldog.

“As a single woman who owns Zelda, the well known 60 lb. English Bulldog that appears on greeting cards, books and a plethora of other products, I couldn’t put Susan Culp’s book, 50 Frogs, 5 Babes, and a Bulldog, down. I laughed, cried and related to so many of Culp’s adventures, especially her adventures that included Winchester, her ‘personality-plus’ English Bulldog. For single women, f… Continue

E-books

My book was published last year by an E-book publisher. I hear that e-book sales are really growing. Do any of you read e-books? Would you read an e-book? What do you like/dislike about them? I have to admit, they are harder to promote than print books.

An Evening with the Good Doctor

The waitress served our food. My choice was spaghetti and meat balls. I tried to smile at the good doctor, who was now avoiding all eye contact. To make matters worse, as I raised a forkful of spaghetti loaded with tomato sauce and a meat ball, the whole wad fell onto my white blouse.

"Some water might help," Elliot suggested.

"Where was my napkin? It was on the floor. I disappeared from view to retrieve it. As I raised my head, he was looking at me. Nervously, I dipped my napkin into a glass… Continue

You should be prepared for pain and torment. Ay least that's the way I went into it.

Great for the environment too. I live on Vancouver Island and see trees that sometimes fill the entire truck with two logs. Huge, old-growth forest, mainly for pulp. It's horrible.

I forgot about Kindle. It's on my wishlist. That will change my mind about reading e-books I'm sure since apparently it makes reading easier.

Infinity makes the book available through all the distributors except Ingram forwhich you have to pay extra, plus it takes Ingram six months from publishing to distribute the book (which means I'm still waiting) Ingram supplys all the discount stores like barns and noble, wal-mart, and hastings.
So for now my book is available through amazon, borders.com and infinity. As far as sales, my royalty statements come two months after the fact so I'm not sure at this point, as my book came out late February. I'll get my March statement in a couple of weeks.

Hey Susan,
I choose to self-publish because I was short on time...didn't want to wait two years to get published and I felt that with my first book it would be better to do it myself. Everything that I read suggested that I would have to do most of the marketing myself anyway. I am unfamiliar with the publishers that you mentioned so I can't comment on them.
I chose Infinity Publishing after doing a side by side comparison with iUniverse and several other well known POD publishers. For me, Infinity offered the best deal as far as price and distribution. You can ask them for a publishing guide which I found helpful as I knew nothing about formatting and such. It offers a step by step guide/how-to for everything. (it would be helpful even if you don't go with Infinity)
Let me know if you have any more questions,
Have a great day! ---Jon.
