Barry, I like this poem, especially since I have three cats in the house. They bat at all kinds of things. Just one piece of advice. You are really going to have to edit your work. Boared should be bored. Winters hear again should be Winter's here...

This is so true. I had written a picture book and thought I might like to submit it somewhere. It was over 1,500 words. The market I wanted was looking for no more than 750. Ruthlessly, I sliced and diced. Got it down to 745. I submitted it. I'm s...

I can remember when the Raiders were good. I'm sure you probably don't remember the days of Daryl Lamonica, I think was his name. Of course, at that time, the Rams were in Los Angeles and their quarterback was one of my all time favorites. Roman G...

I have been in a period of morning. The only baseball team that matters, the St. Louis Cardinals, are out of the hunt for the World Series. The only football in St. Louis is the Rams. Nuff said about that. Otherwise, I'm trying to keep up with sch...

Let's do an advice group. No arguing, no debating, just words of wisdom about writing. Try to keep them brief, 100 words or less, per post. If someone wants to respond to someone else's post, send a personal message. Fair enough?

I envy your capacity to adapt stories for the stage! I don't think I could do it, much as I enjoy theatre.

Greetings and salutations

I've been busy so I haven't written anything in here for ages. Not much news to tell. This past summer I wrote questions for the ACT test. It was interesting. I was given a passage, and I had to write 30 writing/grammar questions about the passage. It pays extremely well. I figured out that with the time I took I made about 60 dollars an hour. I'm not saying it was easy -- au contraire. (sp?) It was very challenging, but being an English teacher helped. The ACT people seem to be happy with my wo… Continue

Update on "Things" including Tongue Tied

The assistant editor at Aladdin has 48 pages of my manuscript that she is reading. I hope she calls me up and says, "Let's do a ten book series." I don't think that's too much to ask, is it?

Also, I recently finished a play designed for high school drama departments. It's called "If These Walls Could Talk about our School". It's different, a bit weird, and hopefully, more than typical high school fare. I have attempted to make the play flexible enough that any school could do it while at the sa… Continue

New Experiment

I am entering the world of blogging in a big way. Here's my blog place. It probably looks like garbage, but I hope to get better as I go along.

Reaction to reaction

Thanks, Dana for taking up for me. Let me assure you, however, that people who took offense at my comment about the conference, especially one in particular, don't really bother me. I was only reporting what I heard.

I would like to mention that the television person at the conference wrote for Monk, one of the most popular shows on USA network. He has also written many novels with Monk as the main character, so he is not involved with one of those short-termed television shows. He has written… Continue

Spring!

Spring. It revitalizes me and makes me see the possibilities for new beginnings. I went to a conference last week and met with an assistant editor from Aladdin Books, Simon and Schuster. She took my stuff with her. I'll keep you all posted. I'm writing on three projects right now. The one I pitched to her was Tongue Tied. Imagine a world where stories are outlawed. Tonguestin Towers officials arrest people who waste time telling stories. In Hinterlu, imagination and magic are the only things tha… Continue

Hey Steve,

You don't have the capability of eblasting everyone (keeps you from getting "spammed"). I, however, do! :-)

Send the content to me by Private Message and I will review and send out in an eblast on your behalf.

Cool?

Hello Steve,
Thanks for being the first to welcome me here. I wish you luck with the conference and editor! It sounds like exciting business.

Oh, yeah, Steve, doomed to hell...almost her exact words. Personally, I can give tips on the mechanics, story structure, etc., but religion...that's a bit over my head. So I let her skim it to get her thoughts on that area.

I think the two problems she had with it involved Lucifer and Jesus bein' friends while in Heaven. And Jesus's outlook on humanity before being "reborn in flesh." Frankly, I thought it was kinda intriguing and...unexpected. Which is good, in my POV. I don't like predictability.

hey Steve
Yes, actually I have been fairly lucky with my screenplays. I haven't make a ton of money from the deals I've cut with producers, but I have managed to sell quite a few for the low budget market. Of course, my favorite scripts have yet to be sold (or written), but I still feel quite blessed.
