Books have always been a big part of my life. I grew up with a father who was a printer and I have worked in many different areas of the printing industry. From typesetting (I believe most know it as desktop publishing these days perhaps) to selling books in a bookstore and online and everything in between. And I mean everything.

I worked for a small newspaper one summer, the Unterrified Democrat, doing paste-up and camera work. That was in the days when the computer didn't do all of those things for you.

The only thing I haven't done is write a book yet, but I'm working on it.

The book I'm working on is way too big to be my first published project and it is sort of a scifi/alternate reality kind of thing. I'm not yet sure what other kinds of writing I'd like to try but I think I'd like to do some children's books.

I'm also very interested in promoting awareness of the need for better solutions for teens who get lost in our educational system and homeless people. The two may seem unrelated, but I see connections in all things.

Go, Stephan, go! At least ONE of us will make it this year!
November 27
It's eight o'clock in the morning and I checked my count. I'm at 47,404 words! I may cross the finish line today, three days early.
November 27
My count now is 45,791 words. Am I the only one left? I can conceivably finish the NaNoWriMo challenge tomorrow. That won't be the end of the book, though. I'll need about 20,000 more words on the first draft, I think.
November 26
Yeah Markus, I'm with you, too. I did make it to the 25,000 mark but my son was home last week and family in for Thanksgiving this week . . . I definitely don't regret doing it though. I met a bunch of really neat local people at our write-ins and...

I'm a big time FAIL. I'm too ashamed to even bother checking my count. I started out so well, but I became distracted by other projects. My discipline sucks!

41,897!
November 24
Checking in for the first time in what seems like an age. I just finished 39,680 words. That's chapter ten for me, though it's meaningless to anyone else. I'm ahead; I've got all of Monday's quota down and about a third of Tuesdays. With only eigh...

Ok, but why is it unfortunate? It sounded like you were talking about what people say on facebook that leads us to believe that they have changed. I have an old friend that I went to high school with and she was even in my wedding 23 years ago. W...

Huh, wouldn't let me edit. I chose "B" because I don't believe in the devil so that's the only option.
November 15
I don't believe people are inherently bad (original sin-believing in a supernatural force, aka "the devil"). I believe that people are inherently good and religion makes it ok to do bad things because they think that the only one responsible for t...

Well, I hope the reason no one has posted their word counts is because they're too busy writing them. I admit I've had a few dry days. Four of them-no words at all. I finally sat down and figured out where the middle of the story was going to go ...
November 14
Congrats Stephan! I had three busy, dry days but brought my count up to 12,372 today. I may do some more writing tonight as well.
November 8
Read it and weep, my dear fellow NoNoWriMoths. I finish today at 18,275 words. Actually, I may get a few more in before bed. I think this puts me about three days ahead of schedule, which feels way good. I really wanted a surplus to draw from over...

You are nuts Tony, but hey, it might just work. Good luck with it.

I'm not sure if I am quite done for the night or not but I probably am. I am at 8706 now.

Make a Mother Proud-Suicide Prevention

Well, I may have complained about being a secular homeschooler in a super religiously and socially conservative area but I'll have to say that inspite of that I don't regret a single minute of our homeschool experience. It's just the little things that they do that make me the proudest, though I know that, of course, many kids that go to school do things like this too, but I feel like homeschooling has allowed me the privilege of being close enough to my kids to fully experience this even though… Continue

Am I being lazy or just still learning?

I have a question and because I have had good response by asking a question from a blog post I'm going to try it this way.

I have written so many, many things. Mostly about parenting, homeschooling and small business though there is a little memoir and short fiction but some how I have never been able to complete much of it!

For instance, I wrote for two hours today about the difference between rules and guidelines and the difference in effect the two have in raising children. Then, my brain s… Continue

Happy Mother's Day?

I have never fully enjoyed Mother's Day. I think it is partly because I don't really like being the center of attention though I usually am (comes with the territory of being MOM). It also seems to be such an odd thing, for Mom's to celebrate being a Mom by NOT doing the usual Mom things. Seems like Dad's celebrate Father's day by DOING fatherly things like playing ball with their kids or watching the races WITH their kids instead of by themselves. What's up with that difference?

It's also an o… Continue

A time for new beginning.

Life gets busy for me at this time of year. I'm sure it does for lots of people for different reasons. It's spring. Time for a new beginning. We've made it through the winter and it's time to start new projects.

I used to be an avid gardener. I had to practically give it up for a few years for health reasons but I'm trying to do a little vegetable gardening again.

I really haven't had much luck with vegetables since I've lived in Florida because the planting seasons are so much different than… Continue

The Mask

I am very emotional these days. So many things are catching up to me at once. I feel like I am the square peg trying to stay away from all of the round holes to protect my sanity. I've always accepted people for who they were but it is becoming so much more difficult these days. I love my extended family but how did I end up here? How did I end up being so different that we can't even communicate any more?

I wrote this today because so many things have pressed down on me at once and I've spent… Continue

Hi Rose,

Thanks for your nice comment about my book titles. I do put a lot of thought into the titles of all my books as I want them to attract potential readers before they've even seen the covers. Even though they may not be your genre I hope that maybe one day you'll get to read something of mine. Of course, apart from my thirllers I also write YA and kids books under the Harry Porter name and the first of my series 'Harry Porter's Dog tales' entitled 'Tilly's Tale' will be released in about two months. Your children may enjoy them, depending on their ages. You can check those out at http://harry-porter.webs.com

I hope you're having a lovely weekkend and look forward to hearing more from you.

Best regards

Brian
