This would be almost impossible for me to answer, but I'll give it a shot. I have only one author whose books I will read whenever they come out regardless if I know anything about the book or not. Dean Koontz is the one. Otherwise, my reading tas...

Hello Everyone and welcome to my page. My name is Robert, but I'd prefer to be called Robby. I'm currently attending Harold Washington College and I'm majoring in Screenwriting and English. I have many dreams for my future. I wish to become a movie and stage actor/novelist/screenwriter. If it does not work out for me, then my second dream of becoming a biologist or a surgeon will be there as backup. I'm kind of an introverted person at times, but when the right occasion comes, my extroverted side comes out. I've been writing poetry since I was in first grade until a certain incident in sixth grade caused me to not want to do it anymore. The inspriational advice by two of my friends in high school helped me to reawaken my gifts. I've been creating anime stories and various other forms of fiction novel ideas for years now. I wish to turn them into novels someday; at least before I hit 26. If there is anything else you would like to know about me, then just ask and I will tell. Have a nice day and don't forget to read my posts. Take care...

Transparent but visible

I lost my own trust today to a lie that is reflected to all...I seemed to have convinced myself and the world, to all that's listening, that my own intentions are that of a fasade...I can't seem to break free because it has transformed into what I wanted all the time...Am I this creatuire that is fit to walk among men ...I can't even shake out how "fake" I even seem to myself...It's funny to know that my true self is trapped behind a gate shuttering in fear of what is nothing but a lie...I just… Continue

Black Silk

When your soul is apathetic, how do you write?

Does time wait for each passing thought?

...And if your thoughts were to set like the evening sun, could your creativity shine like the moonlight night?

If showers were to fall each wave of sleets bitter bite, spring forth a creation that's worth a glipse of sight.

...And if my muse shall drape fine silk onto my page as black as a rare pearl, then may each stroke reveal my true emotions behind me apathetic heart.

Take care....

Its so wonderful to see your eyes reflect the moons tantalizing light after these long years...its hard to see what was lost and can't be obtained...with each passing thought I realize that its better for me not to drift into thoughts that should be left in the past...If only, are the words that seem to escape my lips at this moment....trying to figure out if only I could have, would have, should have listened to what I know now then thing might have been...well...different....my dreams still wo… Continue

Sweetest of Wine

These lies that surround me....like flames they swallow away at my soul...Never escaping from this darkness...my screams fall on death's ears...tearing away from me...hiding away my inner most fear....overcome with discomfort...dying is a pleasure served most warm...I welcome her into my soul...feeding off my pain...shedding not one tear...leave me at rest until I beckon you near...I won't leave her alone... until she closes her eyes...seeing her this way makes me die...please fall one last time… Continue

Requiem

My heart stops...I still think of the time when you touched me...that moment of suspense that stoped times forceful grip...I weakened...like a delicate flower...my senses erupted with a feeling of pure pleasure...I died inside that day...loosing that split second feeling caused my inner walls to fall beneath God's righteous door... Do it again I whisper...hoping wondering if that blissful feeling will return to me...Your eyes...they tell your true intentions but why, why do you play with me so..… Continue

Hello Robert. Thanks for your nice comments on my page. Mary Deal has been profoundly cruel to both of us by raising the hope of profundity from me—especially in the particular scope of your inquiry.

For every anecdote there is an antidote anecdote, but I have to say that most of the young people I know of with degrees of any description are working in some unrelated field, largely to pay off the onerous burden of debt they got into in order to get the degree they are not really using.

If I say anything more on this subject, it will surely be too much (not that it isn't already).

The advice I'd give to someone aspiring to write novels that appeal to older teenagers and adults is to sit down and start writing novels that appeal to older teenagers and adults. You write lucidly. You know how to form a sentence and a paragraph. So write. Get the idea that nobody is stopping you. Don't wait for "a license to survive."

There are entire armies of people with degrees who can't write worth a damn. The way to learn to write is to write, and I cannot possibly write that too many times. By all means get any degree that you think will serve you well. But don't wait for it to make you into a writer. It won't. Writing will make you into a writer.

Aloha Robert and thank you for contacting me. I see that you have also contacted Ashton Gray, so expect some real profound information to come your way.

What I might contribute here is that you should try to look a little beyond your college years and decide what it is exactly that you wish to accomplish in your life. Whatever you decide may change, but for the moment, you would have a long range goal that would provide some clues to the direction you take and the degrees to pursue.

If in the end you cannot make up your mind as to which degree to pursue (writing or biology), perhaps seek out a degree in literature in the broadest sense. That could only positively affect which ever course through life you choose.

Today you believe you want to write novels for young people. However, by the time you finish your education, you may change your mind. I would suggest not to set those kinds of incentives till your education is more complete. Writing for a specific age group will only happen once you have a grasp on writing itself as a whole.

While your questions are difficult to answer, I would finish by saying that, according to the way you posed your query, you're more interested in a writing career, and deeply so, more than Biology. Why not focus all your efforts in the area of writing? The right classes will present to you and you will immerse yourself in them. That's the way to learn which course to choose.

Hi there Broken Quill,

Did you post a character outline someplace? It was a neat outline of how an author can get to know their own character.

If so--where is that dang thing at, I have searched high and low for it.

It's pretty good that you can fall back on being a surgeon. Good luck with all that. And welcome to The Block.
