Oddly enough (or maybe not odd at all!)...my background is more in music and lyric writing than in every day prose (that's a redundant phrase - since prose basically means ordinary written or spoken language)...Now you know something else about me - I'm human and I say some not-so-prolific things sometimes!
In fact, you will often hear me using improper English and slang; find me not using capital letters when I should...It's not that I don't
know better! It's because I am choosing to be informal. An analogy might be that of the difference between an adolescent and an adult - You know how to swear (and rather like to!)...but you have to know when and where to do it! I mean...I am not gonna bust out in a fact-based article written for a publication with poor English or form - Yet...I will email
you in a very lax, "who-cares-if-I-look-like-I-know-how-to-speak-properly" vernacular - because that's who I am.
Ok, I basically just said that when I email you in that lax manner - I don't care what you think of my writing/English skills - Well,
that's obviously not true because I just spent 3 minutes defending myself so that you won't think ill of me!
Crap!
The Latest and Greatest in Dana G-land:
Recently, I have added 'writing for Examiner.com' to my Resume. It's a great opportunity for those of you who like to write in a jounalistic, yet slightly blog-like way. They are looking for writers who aren't strictly blog writers; who have good English/grammar/punctuation skills - but don't want to be tied down a stuffy, information-only style.
Examiner.com is currenlty seeking writers in lots of different categories. If you are interested in being referred by me, let me know and I'll be happy to help you.
Check out my column on Examiner to get a feel for their style:
