I just finished my novel and being fifteen that is saying alot (in my opinion), but I have a feeling that things aren't going to be easy. Growing up in the world today is a lot different from how my parents and grandparents grew up. Murder and gangs are around every corner it seems now a days. I know kids as young as ten going to parties, getting drunk, then calling there parents to come and pick them up. To me a parent's job is not to necessarily hide a child from the world but at least protect them from it and tell them the side effects.
