Same Old Tale

The flower fell from her slim fingers,
Landed on the rug by her bare feet.
Though the scent of her perfume lingers,
Her happy smile made my day complete.

I had been gone, serving my nation
in Europe for the past three years,
But her warm kiss was inspiration
As her embrace banished my fears.

We sat and talked an hour it seems,
Spoke of her letters and my love rhymes.
Told her she was always in my dreams,
Seeing her made it seem like old times.

I wanted to stay but couldn't linger,
Had to pick… Continue

Tarzan Says Adieu

I was really a fool for believing in you
When you said my dreams will come true.
I have you my heart which you tore apart,
Turned my happy dreams to nightmares
Instead of soothing all my cares.

Now you come back, again wanting me
To be with you for more of your misery.
You pull a string, have me do your thing;
Well, listen baby, I'm not your toy boy,
Your cute private plaything to enjoy!

No, shady lady, I'm not your guy;
All you get from me is one good-bye.
How does it feel to know I won't kne… Continue

A Little Street

It's just a little street
In a great big city.
Sort of a small retreat
That's not very pretty.

There's blood on the sidewalk,
Bright yellow crime scene tape.
A shape outlined in chalk
While people stare and gape.

Cops standing at each end
Keep the traffic away,
Let crime lab men attend
To their work this sad day.

The blood is from a cop,
Shot by a thief and died.
His life came to a stop,
His blood remains, now dried.

Soon the lab men will go,
Remove the tape and leave.
Cops will let traffic… Continue

Teaching would be a good career choice...for someone who could handle it. When I was growin' up I had some people pushing me in that direction, but I don't think I could've lasted long with all those kids. My brother, however, must've been listening to the advice when he decided to become a teacher.

When I do go back to college, though, I was thinkin' about something along the lines of English lit. or library science.

Yeah...my brother is also going to school to be a teacher. He's trying to get his degree in Special Education, but it's otherwise a scarce find (he ended up goin' to college an hour or so away, despite the fact there are several good nearby colleges...but they don't have his major).

Yeah, I totally don't regret it. I have plenty of time to do the college thing. And in the meantime, I'll use this passion for writing.

Atlantic City, eh? I have a friend who'd probably kill for a job like that. He went to college, too, with as little drive as me; he flipped a coin to decide his major. Now he's stuck with what he considers a useless degree (teaching). But he spends all his free time playing poker and gambling.

I actually didn't get to finish college. I wasn't sure what I wanted to get my degree in -- and even worse, I had no plan after LCCC. But they made my job real easy when they took away my financial aid and forced me to drop out.

So I have a list of things to do. And among the top on that list is to finish college some day.

Oh, back when I was in college I use to take night classes at the high school in Old Forge. (I went to LCCC in Nanticoke).
