Wind Blessed - Prologue

Prologue

The sleeping torch burst into livid orange flames with the spread of his fingers, devouring the darkness and cold that surrounded its aura like the heat of fire surrounded Baldorn. The passage he traversed with gnawing purpose was straight as night’s horizon and equally grim. He disregarded the ancient words running the length of the far stretching walls, blackened by tongues of fire and whispering riddles of warning to anyone who could render them into meaning. Deeper etchings… Continue

The Turnings - Chapter 1 and Snippets

This story is closest to me and my heart as it revolves around characters who are my best friends, only names have been changed and circumstances altered for drama. Not to mention, I made us older. Bear in mind, it's meant to be humorous - ridiculous, even. I'm writing it for myself and my best friend "Katen" as a way for us to cope with the frustrations of our mutual best friend "Anya" who's harboring ideas about entering a relationship with a guy ("James") we don't approve of, while slo… Continue

Character Development

This is something I do when I'm bored. I pick one of my characters, find a MySpace quiz, and fill it out with the perspective and experiences of my chosen character. It really helps me get into his/her head, and forces me to come up with detailed backgrounds for them. I read somewhere that you should know far more about your character than what actually ends up on the page. I agree with that. So here's an example of a quiz I took as Mina; my female protoganist from Beauty and Payne.

Please igno… Continue

With an attention getting word like stalking at the beginning, consider that you may be writing a thriller, or at least a suspense novel. You need to know which genre in which to write so you'll be able to develop your story in that direction. This…

Thanks, Mari. I like that, but how about just "Wit"? I don't think they call superheroes "man" anymore.

To name a masked avenger, (vigilante) you have to know their superpower. Yours might be agility of tongue, better known as "quick wit". I could see you distracting your villain with a puzzle, or a moral dilemma, then rescuing the victim as the evil…

I rather agree with that. About the bleach as well as Batman. ;) He was always my favorite. Exactly for the reasons you stated.

I'm perfectly fine with it as long as they're doing right by me. I couldn't care less about the law. If you need a law to keep you form raping children then may I suggest drinking a glass of bleach and removing yourself from my planet. I know why we…

There are a lot of stories involving vigilantes, and most of them are portrayed as heroes. How do you feel about these 'bringers of justice' who work outside the system? Which masked man (vigilante or otherwise) is your favorite of all time? Batman?…

It's the prologue, so it's the very beginning of the beginning. ;) I'm working on Chapter One right now, and I'm excited to see where the story is going to take me. Thank you for reading! Glad you enjoyed it. :)

Glad you enjoyed the story, Bethie. It was written for my daughters - the elder of whom was pretty and feminine, the younger a tall, dark tomboy... They loved it, but it made them fight! (I confess to having enjoyed it too when I finally unearthed it again - I'd forgotten how much I liked Fenella!)

Hi Bethie - While you were in the Hot Seat I mentioned the silly fairy-tale I wrote ages ago (damsel rescuing knight in distress). Today I rediscovered it, and I've just posted it on my blog. You said you'd like to read it... So there it is, if you're interested!

Hi there. I finished reading Chains of Love and sent you my comments. Have you ever thought of turning it in to a full length Novel?

Aloha Bethany,

I used to live in Citrus Heights - on Ranch Avenue, a quiet one-block tree-lined street off San Juan between Madison and Greenback. Where are you located?

You can call me what ever you like. Cousin or just James. Which ever you are most comfortable with. After all you were quite a bit younger when I saw you last. Just know that I am here to encourage and help in anyway I can. We all most grow in our own time and our own way. From what I have read so far you have grown into quite the talented young writer.
