The Writer's Box

Where New Writers Find Their Voice

So then, I've noticed the box has been a tad quiet lately (with the exception of a few incredibly enjoyable posts). Where has everyone been hiding? What exciting events have pulled you away from this little playground of ours?

Please share any exciting events, writings, etc you've been doing lately. (In other words, you gots some 'splainin to do as to why you've all been hiding)

I blame the lack of activity on college football getting in the middle of its season, baseball is a game or two away from the World Series, the NFL is getting interesting, and pro basketball is about to begin. Plus, the new Dan Brown book is out and there have been some big boxing matches on as of late. At least those are my reasons for being distracted.

Alright, I can understand watching the NFL. Especially if everyone is watching (and routing for) the Vikings. However, the rest of the sports are not a good excuse to hide from the box. I'll also accept reading and/or writing a good excuse.

You guys would be merely mediocre without Farve and you know it. I'm a Raider fan so I don't have much room to say anything else. And as far as the other sports, I've ended reltionships because they interfered with me watching boxing. In fact, you've just inspired me to post something.

I have been in a period of mourning. The only baseball team that matters, the St. Louis Cardinals, are out of the hunt for the World Series. The only football in St. Louis is the Rams. Nuff said about that. Otherwise, I'm trying to keep up with school work. I did prepare a middle grade novel submission today. Later, this evening, I am going to a trivia contest. The team I'm on is one of the best in my area.

I do have one other thing to mention. My daughter recently won Arcadia Valley's fall festival queen. The seniors nominated her as their representative. The class won float building (see picture), attendance votes, and Megan won talent with a saxophone medley. It was all rather exciting.

Congrats to your daughter, Cousin Steve. I'm a Raider fan so I can feel your pain. I don't feel nearly as much as you do, but I can relate. It'll be great to have you back whenever you get opportunity to come around.

I can remember when the Raiders were good. I'm sure you probably don't remember the days of Daryl Lamonica, I think was his name. Of course, at that time, the Rams were in Los Angeles and their quarterback was one of my all time favorites. Roman Gabriel. We had a team in St. Louis then too, They weren't any good either. Then, there were the days of Kenny Stabler, one of the all-time greats.

The Raiders used to be good?? Was this before or after the football was invented?

Well I have had three very big events in my life as of late. My wife suffered a miscarriage last week, needless to say she was devastated. Picking up the emotional pieces has been difficult to say the least. Funny, we have been together for 20 years and she never got pregnant before. We have had several doctors tell us she couldn't get pregnant. Things sure happen in strange fashion. My job has been difficult as our hours have dropped from 45 to 50 a week to less than 30. And school. I know I am not alone in suffering problems. Life these days is a struggle. People are losing their homes, their jobs, and their lives.

I'm not complaining though. We have each other, for now we still have a roof over our heads, I am working as much as my job will allow me to, I now have partial unemployment to help out, and I am heading toward my "dream job" one class at a time. I still have my health for now, what more can a person ask for?

"I still have my health for now, what more can a person ask for?" ... sanity? A break?

Seriously, I'm sorry to hear about the suffering of both you and your wife. I can relate, to a degree, as this whole month seems to be one thing after another. My prayers are with you.

I have been super busy with the start of school and racing season. Our boys race dirt cars and the season has just come to a close. I am proud to announce that the oldest placed 9th in points overall and it is only his rookie year.

I have also been busy reading, looking for a job and trying to be a new home buyer. I am hopefully getting back into the swing of things. I hope to be on more often.

As for football, the Saints are my team and if I am not mistaken they are currently undefeated. I also IMMENSELY enjoy college football with LSU being my number one all time team.

These are my excuses. I am sorry. I will be back as much as possible.
